Uncreated works of personal expression are at the top of everybody's bucket list. The thing, the business, the book, the project… how is it that the most important goals we have are commonly left unchecked when we kick the bucket? The time for excuses is up, and I believe that the ability to be self-directed and motivated is critical to a fulfilling creative career. Waiting for inspiration isn't a reliable way to create. Today I share four perspectives from past Chase Jarvis LIVE guests that you can apply to your own creative hurdles. Remember, there is no one-size-fits-all formula. Trial...

Recently a couple of friends recommended some Peloton classes by Dr. Chelsea Jackson Roberts. Within a couple weeks I stumbled across her work and wanted to learn more. Chelsea is a former elementary school teacher turned Peloton instructor. From a young age, Chelsea always knew she would teach in some form. After graduating from college Chelsea started her teaching career at an elementary school in Atlanta, but teaching at a Title I school where the majority of the community lived below the poverty line brought challenges that were sometimes overwhelming and stressful. That's when Chelsea discovered yoga. FIRST: I believe deeply that our actions cultivate our mindset and - in turn - our mindset determines our life / success / outcome. Experience tells me this. Whether from my background in art or sports or...hell...anything. As a result, I've long been paying attention to the habits (read: actions) that I do on a regular basis...which ones benefit me and which ones do not. In line with this, I've come to understand that a key subset of the days that feel the best and are my most productive, all have a certain similarity. For one, they are intentional. I'm...

A lot of my breakthrough creative thoughts come to me when least expected. I've talked about "finding creativity" and "creative inspiration" all over the place... on podcasts like this and this (twice for example) or given a keynote on it here at SWSW. That said, I've also learned from an entire life in the trenches as an artist what DOESN'T contribute to them (abusing myself, bad head space, partying too much), but more importantly, what does... I've learned that creative inspiration is something that can be directly CULTIVATED by putting yourself in a fertile environment. So I'm going to let...
