Cory Booker is one of those most compelling and dynamic voices in American politics: the former mayor of Newark, New Jersey, the subject of the 2005 documentary “Street Fight” that chronicles his initial 2002 bid for mayor, and he’s particularly engaged on the topic of education reform - a subject that’s near and dear to my own heart. He’s also an incredibly candid and open personality who’s willing to share many things that those in his position typically haven’t - which is not only refreshing but ultimately makes him that much more effective as a leader. Regardless of your political affiliation...

If you’re familiar with Jason then you know he’s an incredibly unique human. And if you’re not, then I'll do my best-- but you really just need to check out his work. He’s a brilliant and insanely insightful creator whose work sits at the intersection of philosophy, personal development and film much like my own work. You may know him as the host of Nat Geo’s “Brain Games,” from his short film series “Shots Of Awe” or his latest show “Origins” which is in its debut season. It’s really tough to put a label on his work, so instead of...

Steven is an entrepreneur and writer whose work has appeared in just about every publication you can think of -- New York Times, Forbes, Wired, TIME, you name it -- and was nominated for a Pulitizer for his book “A Small Furry Prayer." I wanted to have Steven on because he has a very unique focus in his latest book “Stealing Fire”: understanding peak human performance -- not in an abstract sense, but the specific mechanisms that make people like world-class athletes, Navy SEALs, and entrepreneurs able to do the incredible things they do and more importantly, how that formula...

Leila Janah is a human dynamo and one of the most exciting voices in the world of social entrepreneurship. After starting her career in management consulting, she quit to pursue her passions full time and has founded TWO companies. The first is Samasource, a non-profit that lifts people out of poverty via hiring them to do data work - and their clients now include the likes of Walmart, eBay, Google. And more recently she started LXMI a luxury skincare brand that sources rare ingredients from poor countries and thereby helps lift women out of poverty. Oh - and in case...

Happiness is not an accident. It’s not a state that randomly occurs when the stars align, nor a coincidence or a lucky windfall like buying a winning lottery ticket. In fact, there’s nothing random at all about happiness: it’s the natural product of our choices-- small choices that all of us make every minute of every hour of every day. Yes, there are many things in life that we have little or no control over, and these may be non-trivial things like natural disasters or health crises that bring real pain, discomfort and stress. Nobody - not even the wealthiest...

I'm a huge fan of the concept of "strategic renewal." Chasing shiny opportunities, working in a reactive state and dealing with each new email that pops up on your phone is not only exhausting - it's a way to ensure you get nothing done - and it's simply not sustainable. "Busy" isn't success. It's a lack of priority. I've been paying attention to those who have command of their time...systems that bring sanity and purpose to a hectic travel and work schedule. I fly about 150,000 miles a year, at minimum, so keeping myself healthy and productive in the midst...

I’m often asked what are the biggest levers that’s made a difference in my career & life. If you've been following me for awhile, you'll know I almost always bring up mediation. Perhaps my second not-so-secret weapon is gratitude. I’m a huge believer that so much of ‘THE GAME’ is mental. In today's podcast, I dive a little deeper into gratitude: what is it and how you can do it. A few places you can find more information: my morning routine and my 10 daily habits. Of course you can google it, but if you're looking for more information from my world, you also...

AWARENESS. Awareness is the secret to finding beauty. Recently Kate and I took a quick trip to a small island off the coast of Seattle called Vashon to visit two of our good friends Michael and Angel...I was vlogging the trip. While reviewing the footage, I noticed myself noticing / saying how "beautiful" this or that was, noticing small details in they way something looked or smelled ... like 50 times. In short, it started me thinking about awareness as a skill. Certainly I've made a career in awareness as a photographer -- finding moments or, arguably, the beauty in...
