As you probably know, I’m a huge believer that so much of ‘THE GAME’ is mental. Stress, fear, anxiety, and our natural negativity bias is always ready beat us down. One of the most powerful tools in my toolbox to harness positivity in a seemingly tough situation is a daily gratitude practice. As we head into Thanksgiving here in the states, in the middle of a pandemic and everything else, I wanted to dig into the archives and re-share my personal practice. In this episode I share the exact practice I use every morning to re-center my mindset. Join me if...

AJ Jacobs is a multiple NYT bestselling author, a journalist, a lecturer as well as a warm and hilarious human soul. He’s on this weeks podcast and is…SO GOOD. I’m often asked what are the biggest levers that’s made a difference in my career & life. If you've been following me for awhile, you'll know I almost always bring up mediation. Perhaps my second not-so-secret weapon is gratitude. I’m a huge believer that so much of ‘THE GAME’ is mental. In today's podcast, I dive a little deeper into gratitude: what is it and how you can do it. A few places you can find more information: my morning routine and my 10 daily habits. Of course you can google it, but if you're looking for more information from my world, you also...

I stand on stage and talk about this. I can write about it with confidence. But even having lived 20 creative lives, there are roadblocks that inevitably show up. And they appear right when a project is nearing its end. This is how I feel about my new book. My thought process is that if you're not sick of a project when it nears the end, you didn't go deep enough. So, what do we do when we're stuck in a creative rut? Today I'm joined by my good friend Christopher Jerard. As the current VP of Content Marketing at...

Have you ever noticed how much you complain in a day? We all complain too much. Seriously. From bad weather to having no time, we have a complaint for just about anything we don’t like, but here’s the thing about complaining, it can worsen your mood, make you feel helpless, and lead to a negative outlook on life. The Trap of Complaining Complaining is easy. It's a default mode that requires little effort. But it's also a vortex that sucks in energy, creativity, and time – resources that could be better spent on creating something meaningful. When we complain, we're...

My favorite gift to give, whether during the holidays or otherwise, is time. As a nonrenewable resource, its value is gold. And unfortunately, in today’s world, this gift is increasingly rare. We can sit in the same house or even the same room with someone and be completely separated from them. So this holiday season, I’m keeping 3 recent conversations I’ve had on the show in mind. If you’ve not listened to these shows, I highly recommend them. Anna Lembke on the addiction we have to technology - phones are killing the conversation Matt Abrahams on how to speak confidently...

During the pandemic, I rediscovered golf and was instantly captivated. What started as a pastime quickly turned into a full-blown obsession. I dove headfirst into the game, setting ambitious goals like playing 50 games in 50 days for my 50th birthday. I even sought out golf lessons and started working with a coach to fine-tune my skills. But here's the remarkable thing: the lessons I've learned on the course extend far beyond golf itself. They transcend the boundaries of the game and have become guiding principles in all aspects of my life. Whether you're a golf enthusiast or not, these...

Are you having a bad day? Or was it a bad 5 minutes that you milked all day? I love this question. Because it’s so true! How often have we let something small ruin our entire day. Of course there are terrible things we all experience that are difficult to cope with, like tragedy. But that not what we’re talking about here. I’m talking about the small stuff. The every day shit that is gnaws at you. It’s the argument you had this morning, the coffee you spilled on your clean white shirt, or getting cut off in traffic. These...

Getting personal and a little scientific here... Once our basic three needs are met (and often even when they're not), there exists within the human species a hard-wired desire to pursue happiness. For me, happiness has always been inextricably linked with creativity, the two enjoying a direct relationship. The happier I am, the more creative I am. Or more metaphysically speaking, the happier I am, the more open I am to inspiration and creativity. As if joy, laughter and contentedness can fine-tune the antennae that allow inspiration to be channeled from the Creative Source. There are myriad studies and books...

The world is crazy sometimes. Getting crazier with tragedies, war, politics, and more. But we can also find moments of reflection, of empathy, and gratitude for what we DO have, even amidst the loss, fear, and stress. These kinds of events can also serve as wake up calls for life…what are the things we’re supposed to be doing in life. How should we “be” in the world? How can we love more…love ourselves and love one another? Over the years it’s made me think more intentionally about how I’m living. For, as cliché as the saying goes, we only have...
