Hello my internet friends! Today is a very exciting day. I’m proud to announce 28 to Make: daily creative project ideas.
Short version: I want you to join me and some friends in a global 28 day movement to dramatically enhance your creativity – and maybe your life.
Longer version? Read on…but it’s basically just pure awesome, and very simple, low friction, zero cost and just 5 minutes per day to way way way up your game.
The truth is, it takes 2-4 weeks to make a habit stick…and so some time ago I gave myself this challenge – to make something everyday for a month, something simple, fun, and playful in 5-15 minutes — a photo, a simple sketch, a haiku, or whatever — and it literally changed my life.
And whether your photographer, a designer, a bartender, accountant, or a stay at home parent…creativity is at the heart of being human. It’s one of the things that differentiates us from the other species on the planet. We were literally put here to CREATE — but the benefits go deeper.
THE BENEFITS I experienced when I tried this?
1. Sure, I was more creative, but not just in photography, in EVERYTHING. In cooking, in telling stories, in my approach to relationships, etc.
2. That inner self talk got a LOT more positive and confident. Instead of second-guessing my POV, I became more comfortable and happy to do my own thing.
3. I was more joyful. Put simply, the act of intentionally creating something brought me a lot joy. No time for grumpy, just joyful.
4. I was way more productive. Yes, taking a 5-15 min break during the day made me A LOT more productive throughout the rest of the day. As in I got more done by goofing off a little.
Overall, these creative exercises had such a dramatic impact on my life, that I now do this EVERY DAY of the year. Yes, every day. Ok I miss one or two here and there…but It’s right here on my list of daily habits now, and I LOVE it. Its no joke that today I attribute many of the successes in my career simply to my ability to be more creative.
THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN!!
It was through this sort of lens that the smart and awesome people I work with at CL came up with this cool little program we’re running for the month of February called 28 To Make. It is designed to spoon feed you one little email every morning for 28 days, with a simple little video explaining a 5 minute creative project idea for the day…All you have to do is go to THIS PAGE and click sign up / RSVP. (100% free, just an email so I can send you the lessons).
AGAIN. Too many people erroneously believe that creativity is some god-given thing that you either have or your don’t. Or maybe you’re either INSPIRED today, or your aren’t. After a life dedicated to being creative, being around others who are creative, and helping those who don’t think they are creative to find that creativity within themselves — I can PROMISE YOU that creativity is not a skill…it’s a HABIT. We can all fall in and out of practice around creative project ideas…but the truth is (and science backs me here…) that it’s NEVER too late to either jump-start or re-engage your creative mojo.
- How do I sign up?
Go to THIS PAGE and click the blue button. Zero dollars, just your email to send you the daily lesson.
- What will happen after I sign up?
You’ll get daily creative project ideas in your inbox every day for 28 days. And then it will stop. You can also find the videos here on the 28 To Make page once they’ve been posted each day.
- How long will each creative exercise take me?
The projects can all be completed in 5-20 minutes, but you can take as long as you like. Also – do it your way. If the project calls for a drawing, but you’ve got some modeling clay on hand, feel free to sculpt instead.
- What if I skip some days here and there. Or what if I join late?
No problem. Just pick up where you left off whenever you want. Or skip ahead. Just get as much of 28 days of making underway– or until you stumble upon that thing really gets you going. If you find yourself getting stale again, you can always come back. The videos will be released in weekly batches throughout February, but you can watch them on the class page whenever you want after that.
- Can I share my work? Is there a #hashtag?
Yes there is. Share what you made with the world on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter using #28toMake. We really want to see what you come up with, and we’re not alone.
